Mountain Recreation Ltd, based in Wanaka, is the oldest, privately owned, professional mountaineering school & trek guiding service in New Zealand.
MountainRec has held mountain guiding licences for Mt. Aspiring National Park since 1974, and for Aoraki-Mt. Cook/Westland National Parks since 1984.
MountainRec has conducted guided treks and climbs in the Himalaya & can assist with your planning.
The Company's Directors are Geoff & Beryl Wayatt and Jim Strang.
Geoff Wayatt commenced guiding in 1967, and is NZ’s most experienced mountain guide.
Beryl has trekked and climbed in Canada & Peru, climbed Mt. Aspiring, and to 20,000ft with our Nepal 1999 Trek - Climb Expedition (see Himalaya ).
Jim Strang is our long-time education advisor. He is a recently retired professional guidance counsellor in Christchurch. Jim's long-loved personal challenge continues developing & supporting teacher training programme in Nepal to assist Ed Hillary's Himalayan Trust.
Our guides are dedicated and qualified professional mountain people with extensive expedition experience.

LODGE ACCOMMODATION: Our private Mountain Hut "AVALANCHE LODGE" is at the base of Mt Aspiring. We can provide support and catering for individual and group mountain holidays, including: Trekking, geography/ecology, photography workshops, and team-building.
TREKS: Our Mt. Aspiring Guided Treks can custom plan and assist a range from easy 3 day valley treks with day packs to energetic 4 day trek/climbs of Mt. French,
Self-guided treks & Lodge accomodation are available to suitable & past clients.
NEPAL: We have strong Nepal connections utilising the experience of Geoff and Chhuldim Temba Sherpa of Mountain Experience to provide a unique high altitude holiday.
PRIVATE GUIDING: We can assist planning with private mountain & ski expeditions, filming location and industrial mountaineering, rigging tasks, and snow safety/avalanche consulting.
MOUNTAIN PHOTO LIBRARY: Geoff has 2,000 photo images available for commercial, private use and custom enlargement prints of climbing & exploring in New Zealand and Worldwide.
